  • WORK IN Langreo

«We are experiencing a progressive dismantling of the industrial fabric of the area, we are aware of the increase in unemployment and the loss of the population, especially young people. We have to work to create a participatory space in which we can reinvent the area»

  • Challenges

    • Stopping the demographic drain. «Young people are leaving Langreo for other cities. With luck we will be a dormitory town, but maybe not even that. We have to work on this in the coming years to halt this loss of young people. Or to become attractive to them again»

    • Ageing of the population. «In addition to the drain of young people, there is the inevitable ageing of the population. And the decline in the environment, social life… It’s all tied together»
  • Opportunities

    • Location. «We can take advantage of the advantages of a small town, where you can find practically the same services as in a large town, at a much shorter distance, without serious traffic problems»

    • Space for experimentation. «We have a situation where there is still a lot to do. European funds are now demanding experimentation spaces, we could try to do new things here»

Underlying perception

«The basin is still macho because of the legacy of the mining society»
